Why Austin?

Go anywhere in the country and mention Austin,Texas, and just about everyone has something great to say.  Not long ago, I was going through customs and the customs agent asked where I lived and when I said Austin, she held up the line to tell me how much she wanted to move to Austin,Texas.

As everyone seems to know Austin is a very cool place. Sure it can get hot but the things we have to offer make up for it. Of course everyone knows us for our music, from Austin City Limits to South by Southwest (SXSW) to our many other festivals we really are "the live music capital of the world". In almost any week year round you can hear a fine symphony, highly acclaimed classical to country music, heavy metal to jazz or just about anything you would want. And if you want to be a part of the music scene you can join the hundreds of others who each year move to Austin for the limitless opportunities.

Our visual arts, theater, dance and festival scenes can match anyone's. We have great open air art shows, galleries and museums and many artisans have made Austin their home giving their unique style to many of our central neighborhoods.  With theaters from an nationally known equity house to the most avant garde you are bound to find something to suit your tastes. Our ballet is first class and preforms in Washington DC and New York annually. If you like folkloric dance there are opportunities from  around the world, and if boot scootin' is your scene there are many dancehalls that will have you kicking up your heels with the best of them.  Movies have become an important part of Austin as the center of the movie industry in Texas has move to the city. Frequently you'll find beautiful stars and hot indie directors or our own resident celebrities sitting next to you in a club or restaurant.

If sports are your thing, what can beat the University of Texas Longhorns and many professional teams from ice hockey to rollergirls to baseball.  In addition we are one to three hours from some of America's best loved major league teams.

We haven't even touched on the outstandingly beautiful Texas Hill Country which many compare to the south of France. With the largest urban preserve in the country, over thirtyfive thousand acres, Austin is known for hills and trees, rivers, streams, and an abundance of lakes and parks that make natural Austin an oasis. From caves to cliffs, hikes to white water rafting, boating, water skiing, picnicking or just relaxing under a shade tree, you'll find Central Texas an easy place to call home.

Many organizations and businesses provide further information.  You might begin by looking at the very informative article at www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austin,_texas#External_links. It will give you a complete overview from history to demographics and interesting stories. And additional source is www.austin.smallplanetguides.com.  At www.austinrelocationguide.com you can find current information on the city including school listings, tax information.

www.Austinchronicle.com, www.Austin360.com and the www.austinmonthly.com  will keep you up to date with the changing nature of our metropolitan area and are extremely valuable as guides to our first class entertainment, restaurants and bars.

For more business related information see the www.austinbusinessjournal.com, or www.austinchamber.com/austin/life and for specific Hispanic culture and business information see the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce web site at www.gahcc.org.  Their Hispanic-Demographics section is especially helpful. Searching the City of Austin and individual municipalities by name will lead you to their web sites.

Anything you can't find there or for explanations of information that is incomplete or just does not make sense-call me.  If I do not know the answer I'll find out for you. Or just call to chat about my favorite place to live in America.  It will be my pleasure.
